Describe the friction in a real record
Operational friction becomes a product opportunity when the same obstacle recurs across users. Record where a task stalls, the workaround and the consequence. A complaint about slow reporting might come from missing data, approval delays or the report interface; those are different problems.
Check whether the need travels
Compare several organisations or teams that perform the task. Identify shared inputs and rules, then record differences that require custom work. Ask who benefits, who pays and what an acceptable output looks like. A valuable internal improvement is not automatically a saleable product.
Test a small paid outcome
Provide the result manually or through a narrow utility before building a broad application. Measure whether customers use it again and how much support it requires. A reusable product needs a stable core, manageable exceptions and a clear ownership model. Build the next release around evidence from completed work.
